2024 Alumni Awards Ceremony recognizes distinguished leaders

Every year, the Saint Francis community gathers to honor our distinguished alumni, celebrating achievements in their careers, personal lives and community service. These individuals truly embody the university’s mission and values. Through their actions, they reflect the importance of the lasting impact of their education and inspire others to make a difference in the world. Here are this year’s winners:

Nicole Hahn Distinguished Alumna: Nicole Hahn (BA ’94)
Hahn flourished for 21 years at Fort Wayne’s ABC affiliate, 21Alive, eventually becoming executive producer. After having leadership positions at a few other businesses, Hahn, a lifelong Catholic, became the director of the secretariat for communications at the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend in 2019.

Hahn’s strong Catholic faith aligns with a love of volunteering, and she has served a robust list of agencies. Junior Achievement, CrimeStoppers, American Cancer Society (being a two-time cancer survivor), Huntington Catholic School Board, the Knights of Columbus Council #1014 in Huntington, A Mother’s Hope and her Catholic parish St. Mary’s Huntington have all benefited from her generous gift of time and talent.

David Martinez Distinguished Service Award: David Martinez (BA ’01) and Shannon (Mohan) Martinez (BA ’01)
David and Shannon Martinez met during their freshman year at Saint Francis. Shannon was on the volleyball team and David on the soccer team. Shannon earned a degree in secondary education and David received a degree in communications.

For more than 20 years, they assisted in ministry with The Salvation Army and have lived and served in Malawi, Africa; the Republic of Georgia (part of the old Soviet Union); Omaha; Chicago; Detroit; and Indianapolis. During this time, they raised five sons. They recently resigned from The Salvation Army and are waiting to see what the future holds and what the Lord has planned for them.

Megan Quigley Distinguished Young Alumna: Megan Quigley (BA ’18)
Quigley is a legacy alumna, as her parents attended Saint Francis, and her grandmother attended the St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. Her love for Saint Francis is deep, and each stage as a student, alumna and university employee has been a joy for her. She serves as Saint Francis director of mission programming and loves helping college students discover the joy of a life lived for God. Quigley received a Master of Arts degree in Theology from the University of Notre Dame in the summer of 2024.

Dustin Butcher Cougar Spirit Award: Dustin Butcher (BA ’01)
While Butcher was at Saint Francis, he played baseball each year and graduated with a degree in psychology. He then served as an assistant coach at Marian College (now Marian University) while completing his master’s degree in sports psychology at Ball State University. He was an assistant coach at Saint Francis and became the head coach in 2018.
