FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Marble Lounge Records, the new record label launched by University of Saint Francis students has announced the first artist who will record an album with the label. The band Rosalind & the Way was introduced on February 8 at a news conference in the Historic Woman’s Club at USF Downtown.
Rosalind and the Way were one of ten finalists in consideration for the label’s initial artist. The label was officially launched in September 2017 as part of two University of Saint Francis programs, Media Entrepreneurship Training in the Arts (META) and Music Technology.
Marble Lounge Records began to create their business foundations during the fall semester of this academic year and the current semester is dedicated to producing and promoting their first album with Rosalind & the Way.
The META record label team has been developing and executing a business plan, including announcing the label’s name and logo in December. They scouted and signed their first artist after asking musicians to submit demo tracks in late 2017. The next steps are to develop a marketing strategy for the band, continue to promote the record label and project ways in which this university-owned enterprise can become self-sustaining. The META team and Music Technology students continue to learn about the music business, including legal issues such as copyright and licensing.
As the first signed artist, Rosalind & the Way will have their music recorded by USF Music Technology students in the USF recording studios, and also have the opportunity for an original composition to be produced by the Emmy-winning and Grammy, Tony and Drama Desk Award–nominated producer, arranger/composer and music director Rob Mathes (Sting, Panic at The Disco, Yo Yo Ma, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra). For more information on Rob Mathes, visit www.robmathes.com.
META engages cross-disciplinary student teams in hands-on projects requiring creative solutions. The Music Technology program focuses on the production and recording technologies of music, now taught in new state-of-the-art recording and performance studios. Both programs are housed at USF Downtown.
The music label will premiere their first album with Rosalind and the Way at an artist launch/drop party in April.
