The John Duns Scotus Honors Program
Challenge Yourself, Inspire Others
The Honors Program at Saint Francis offers an intellectually challenging, yet highly rewarding experience for undergraduates of all disciplines. Appropriately named after John Duns Scotus, the Scottish theologian and philosopher who, along with St. Bonaventure, established the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition, the Honors Program:
- Blends academic rigor with community service
- Models leadership and civic engagement
- Forms a vibrant community of student and faculty scholars
Not to be confused with being on the Dean’s List or graduating “with honors,” the Honors Program is for students who want to take their Saint Francis experience to the ultimate level. Honors students work independently and strive for academic excellence.
The Honors program curriculum includes 11 credit hours from the following courses:
- Great Books Foundations I and II
- Honors Seminar
- Honors Capstone
- Honors Independent Study
- Plus 2 additional credits from the Independent Study or the Great Books Seminar
Honors students wear the Honors cord at commencement, and the accomplishment is noted on their transcripts. Admission to the Honors program is competitive.
