FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The University of Saint Francis will offer a Theology summer camp for current high school students entitled “Beauty Will Save the World!” July 8-12, 2018, on the USF main campus, 2701 Spring Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The camp is aimed at high school students who desire deeper study of and hands-on activities connected to the various ways beauty reveals God in our world.
The camp will give students the opportunity to explore how God is revealed through beauty by teaching them the ancient practice of icon painting. Under a trained instructor and using their own hands, students will make a Byzantine icon of Christ.
They will also meet with various USF faculty to discuss where they see beauty in their academic disciplines—nursing, biology, economics, creative arts, and the humanities among them. In addition, they will meet with faculty and other speakers to talk about vocations to serve in the world. Other activities include canoeing on Mirror Lake, enjoying fellowship around campfires, watching documentaries and praying together each day.
The fee for the Beauty Will Save The World! Summer Camp is dramatically reduced this year thanks to the generous support of the Lilly Endowment’s program of Theology Institutes for High School Students. The fee is an all-inclusive $99 (more than $400 below cost) and includes room and board, supplies, activities and transportation. The Lilly Endowment grant helps to ensure the registration fee is affordable for families. Because of this extraordinary value, the camp is limited to the first 25 students who register—which needs to be done as soon as possible.
