Welcome to the Simulation Lab
The Simulation Lab was the brainchild of Dr. Lorene Arnold and was built in collaboration with Parkview Health. The lab has the Medicial Education Technology family of simulators. The infant reflects the physiology of a 6 month old, a pediatric simulator that reflects a 6 year olds physiology, and an adult patient simulator that can reflect up to 5 different body types.
Instructors put students through a variety of real-life scenarios, and students are expected to treat the scenarios and patients as if they are real. Students aren't expected to know everything and can make mistakes and know that they aren't hurting the patient in the process. The simulation process is about learning.
All sessions are recorded on video, which are then played back during the debriefing session to help students review what went on and how to improve patient care. Students who were at the bedside, as well as those observing, are encouraged to share their experiences and what they were feeling in the roles they were playing. Instructors will guide students as they reflect on their experiences.
