Healthcare Background: I worked for Indiana Physical Therapy as an athletic trainer at a high school for three years. I was also employed by Orthopaedics Northeast as an athletic trainer at a high school for one year. 

Professional Goals: I want to learn as much as I can during my time here at the University of Saint Francis and continue to learn throughout my career as a PA. I want to grow as an individual and become the person I always envisioned I would be.  I will contribute to the healthcare community as a caring, qualified, and well respected PA-C. My interests currently lie in orthopaedics, but I am excited to find if there is anything else that inspires me to take a different path.

 Brittany Bone

Academic Background: B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois 

Healthcare Background: Throughout my collegiate years, I served as a volunteer at various hospitals. In addition, I worked as a CNA at a long-term care facility before transferring to Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois. During breaks from school, I worked in the “float pool” at the hospital. That experience afforded me the opportunity to work in numerous units in the hospital. 

Professional Goals: My goal is to become a highly qualified and compassionate PA-C.  I am looking forward to clinicals, which I hope will reveal the area of medicine that I am best suited for.

Stephanie Cunningham

Healthcare Background: During the course of four years I worked in the emergency room as a patient care assistant at two different hospitals in western Michigan; Zeeland Community Hospital and Holland Hospital. Before that, I worked as an extern and job shadowed at two hospitals’ emergency rooms in Pontiac, Michigan, near Detroit. 

Professional Goals: To become a professional, respected, compassionate physician assistant and continue to be a lifelong learner. Although all of my previous experience is in the emergency room setting, I am looking forward to determining my ultimate career goals through clinical rotations.

Academic Background:  I graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in May 2010 with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. 

Healthcare Background:  I was an intern for Community Spine Center at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.  

Professional Goals: I am excited to devote myself to PA school, and become the most competent, trusting, and compassionate Physician Assistant possible. I am currently interested in pediatrics, and I am eager to explore other possibilities during clinical rotations. I look forward to the relationships I will build with patients, and I hope to make a positive impact on the health care system.

Healthcare Background: I worked as a medical records assistant/medical examination chaperone every summer during college. I volunteered on the telemetry and med/surg floors at Green Memorial Hospital in Xenia, OH. I also volunteered for Dayton Children’s Hospital in Dayton, OH. 

Professional Goals: I want to become a competent and caring certified PA. I do not know which area I want to specialize in yet, but I look forward to learning a lot and serving people in tangible ways.

Healthcare Background: Volunteered as a CNA in an elderly care facility for 3 years.  Worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Female Pelvic Medicine Research Department of an Obstetrics and Gynecology office for 2 years. 

Professional Goals: To become a valuable resource as a physician assistant, continuously learning and gaining experience.  I want to provide quality care as well as being a compassionate listener and friend by building trust, through education and communication. I would like to be a positive influence on the health care field and discover a specialty that is the best fit for me through clinical rotations.

Healthcare Background: Worked as a CNA in a nursing and rehabilitation facility in South Bend, IN. After moving to Fort Wayne, I worked as a CNA for a healthcare staffing agency and worked in several nursing facilities. I then worked as a Patient Care Associate on a medical/surgical floor at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. 

Professional Goals: After graduation, I hope to be a highly-skilled and well-trained certified Physician Assistant. Right now my interests lie in pediatrics and oncology, but I look forward to clinical rotations to expand my horizons. No matter what area I end up working in, I want to be a competent and compassionate provider.

 Vicki Hart

Academic Background: I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Exercise Science from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in December 2009.

Healthcare Background: I worked as a resident care specialist (nursing aide) at a rehabilitation and long term facility for a year and a half.  I also shadowed several doctors and a physician assistant in an orthopedic clinic.

Professional Goals: My goal is to become compassionate and knowledgeable physician assistant.  I hope to build many positive relationships with my patients in order to gain their trust and respect.  I am currently interested in orthopedics, cardiology, or emergency medicine and look forward to starting clinical rotations to gain a better understanding of the different areas in medicine.

 Kiley (Gooch) Hewson

Academic Background: B.A. in Pre-Med/Psychology from the University of Notre Dame.  M.S. in Biology from IUPUI. 

Healthcare Background: My initial experience started through volunteering on an Oncology Unit.  I did additional volunteering at a nursing home and for Hospice.  My most valuable experience came from working full-time at an orthopedic practice.  I gained familiarity working with patients and assisting in the Operating Room.   

Professional Goals: I am striving to become a well-rounded Physician Assistant.  My ultimate goal is to become a highly educated and empathetic medical professional.   I have a strong interest in Orthopedics, but am looking forward to exploring more options during clinical rotations.
 Katie Hoogstrate

Academic Background: I graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI in May 2010 with a BA in psychology and biochemistry minor. 

Healthcare Background: I worked part-time for the last three years as a Nursing Assistant at DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids on a general in-patient pediatrics floor. Through this job I also had the opportunity to gain some experience working on pediatric med-surg, hematology/oncology, and nephrology floors. 

Professional Goals: I have a strong interest in pediatrics but look forward to gaining experience and competency in many areas of medicine. Overall, I hope to become a knowledgeable and professional PA-C who leaves a positive lasting impression on my patients.

Healthcare Background: I worked as a CNA in a retirement community from 2007 to 2010.  I received an EMT-B certification in 2008 with clinical experience as an ER Technician and as an EMT student on the St. Elizabeth Hospital ambulance service. 

Professional Goals: My primary aspiration is to become a compassionate and proficient PA-C.  I look forward to exploring many aspects of medicine during my clinical rotations, and discovering a challenging and rewarding field to dedicate myself to. Throughout my career, I hope to volunteer for underserved populations in my community and around the world.

 Kelly Hoyert

Academic Background: BS in Community Health with a concentration in Health Planning and Administration from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. 

Healthcare Background: Throughout winter and summer breaks, I worked in a General Surgeon’s office as an aid to the PAs and NPs. I also had the opportunity to work alongside a PA in a government run health clinic. I have been BLS certified for the past 6 years. 

Professional Goals: To develop into a compassionate, respected and well-rounded Physician Assistant. After graduation I would like to devote time to working in an area with limited access to health care in order to demonstrate my Christian belief in serving. I hope to immensely increase my knowledge of the medical field while at the University of St. Francis and continue to dedicate myself to life-long learning. I am eager to explore the opportunities the medical field has to offer.

 Erin L. Kingsbury

Academic Background: In 2008, I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University with a major in Biology and a minor in Spanish. In 2010, I received my Master of Science degree from Purdue (IPFW campus) in Biology. I was a member of a breast cancer research lab at Purdue that was involved in looking at the relationships between obesity and breast cancer (2005-2008). In graduate school, I performed primary research on the Varicella Zoster Virus for my thesis project. 

Healthcare Background: Nurses Aid (2003); Pharmacy Technician with Scott’s Pharmacy (2008-2010); Medical room technician at Matthew 25 Clinic (2009-current) 

Professional Goals:  My goal is to become a competent and well rounded Physician Assistant that has great patient relationships and respect in the community.  I would like to begin working in a clinic setting serving the under deserved, and then use my experiences in research and clinic experiences to teach.

Professional Goals: To become a PA specializing in emergency medicine or surgery.  I have a passion for the underserved populations so I plan to be involved heavily with medical missions. I am open to exploring new areas during clinical rotations. 

 Robert Linnell

Academic Background: B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Iowa located in Iowa City, Iowa. 

Healthcare Background:  I volunteered for 4 years at the UIHC.  I shadowed a few PAs. I spent 2 years working as a nursing assistant on an orthopedic and urology unit at the UIHC. 

Professional Goals: To gain knowledge and obtain my masters as a PA-C.  I hope to become a respected PA within the healthcare community and have a positive impact on my patient’s lives.  I have spent a lot of time in orthopedics and that is an exciting option for me as a PA, but I am looking forward to the clinical rotations to explore the differences that each specialty has to offer.

 Justine Moder

Academic Background: University of Wisconsin – La Crosse in May 2010 with degrees in Biology: Biomedical Concentration, Spanish, and Pre-Physician Assistant Studies with a minor in Chemistry 

Healthcare Background: I worked as a CNA for four years at a nursing home in Northfield during the summer and holiday breaks from school.  I also participated in health care related study abroad trips. 

Professional Goals: To become a knowledgeable, compassionate and professional physician assistant.  I hope to provide quality care to all patients and work well as part of the health care team.  As of right now, I am unsure of a specialty to pursue, but I would like to pursue a specialty where I would be able to work with the Spanish-speaking community on a regular basis.  I am looking forward to clinical rotations in order to explore all aspects of medicine.

Professional Goals: My goal is to become a well-trained PA-C that will provide compassionate and competent health care for members of the community.  I plan to continue to use my knowledge and experience as a dietitian to help educate and care for patients.

Professional Goals: To use the skills and knowledge that I have gained to provide compassionate and exceptional care as a PA-C.  I hope to improve the lives of others and become a dependable resource in the community.  I am not sure which area of medicine I want to practice, but I am excited to explore my options in clinical rotations.

 Lisa Tubbs

Hometown: I grew up in Hudson, Indiana but have lived in Columbus, Ohio for the past 8 years. 

Academic Background: I received a B.A. in Exercise Science from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio in 2006. 

Healthcare Background: For the past 3 ½ years I have worked as a Radiology Tech Aide in an outpatient setting.  During undergrad I spent two years as a student athletic trainer and interned in a physical therapy office as well as an exercise science lab. 

Professional Goals: I anticipate working as a Physician Assistant in an orthopedic or surgical setting, but I look forward to clinical rotations in order to explore other fields of healthcare.

 Kate Van Poppel

Hometown: I grew up in Mishawaka, IN but have lived in Indianapolis, IN for the last 10 years.   

Academic Background: I graduated from Ivy Tech State College with an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology and finished up my Bachelor’s Degree at Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis in General Studies of Science. 

Healthcare Background: I have worked for the past 5 years in the field as a Surgical Technologist at Indiana Orthopedic Hospital.   

Professional Goals: I aspire to keep an open mind in the field of a Physician Assistant.  I would enjoy staying in surgery and opening my eyes to the clinical experience that comes along with this area of medicine.  My personal goals are to make a positive impact with the people I will be surrounded by and uphold the professionalism of a Physician Assistant.

 Timothy Brian Williams

Academic Background: In 2010, I received my B.S in Health Science from Benedictine University. 

Healthcare Background: For the past four years, I have worked as a Rehabilitation Aide with Athletico Rehabilitation and also Flexeon Rehabilitation. In August of 2009, I also received my certification as an EMT-Basic. 

Professional Goals: Professionally, I aspire to become a PA-C that has a very good reputation as a well-rounded, caring individual that dedicates his time to helping patients.  The field that I am most passionate about is Sports Medicine, but I am also open-minded to other fields such as Pediatrics and Emergency Room care. I foresee clinical rotations as an opportunity to learn more about the many fields of medicine that are available.

 Rachel Yanikov

Academic Background: Bachelor’s of Science in biology (pre-physician assistant) from Ohio Northern University 

Healthcare Background: I worked as a PCA primarily on a medical-telemetry unit and an orthopedic-rehabilitation unit at a branch of the Cleveland Clinic. I also worked as a STNA.  I served as an anatomy and histology teaching assistant for 3 years. Additionally, I volunteered at a camp to help children with diabetes and at a local hospital. 

Professional Goals: To use the knowledge and abilities I possess to positively impact the lives of my patients as a PA-C.  I strive to be a respectable and compassionate healthcare professional.  I hope to participate in medical missions trips.  I am most interested in orthopedics and geriatrics.  However, I am very excited to explore other areas of medicine during my clinical rotations.
