Dr. Adam DeVille Publishes Chapters in Two Books This Month
"Faith, Freedom, and the Academy" was published in William C. Mills, ed., Church and World: Essays in Honor of Michael Plekon (Orthodox Research Institute, 2013). The essay discusses academic freedom in both Orthodox and Catholic contexts and was written to honor the sociologist and Orthodox priest Michael Plekon in his 35th year of teaching at the City University of New York.
"Holy Fools in Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited and Helena" was published in Marc DiPaolo, ed., Unruly Catholics from Dante to Madonna: Faith, Heresy, and Politics in Cultural Studies (Rowman, Littlefield, 2013). This essay uses a topos from Byzantine and later East-Slavic hagiography to analyze two of the most singuluar characters in the novels of Waugh, who was widely regarded as the greatest English Catholic writer of the 20th century.
