03.16.14 Steel Dynamics Foundation giving $1 million for USF scholarships
The Steel Dynamics Foundation will give $1 million to the University of Saint Francis (USF) over a 10-year period to establish the university’s Steel Dynamics Foundation Scholarship. The scholarships are a way for Steel Dynamics Inc. to reinvest in the community within which it operates, CEO Mark Millett said. Ten University of Saint Francis education students are meeting with 80 Forest Park Elementary School second-graders this semester to improve the elementary students’ reading skills and prepare them for third-grade success. That supports the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership’s Vision 2020 initiative to increase to 60 percent the number of Northeast Indiana residents with high-quality degrees or credentials. WinterFest 2014 at Schouweiler Planetarium at the University of Saint Francis continues this weekend. The planetarium’s festival offers two new shows, “The Planets,” narrated by “Star Trek: Voyager” TV show star Kate Mulgrew, and a new cartoon favorite, “Larry Cat in Space.” The shows are open to young sky-viewers, their families and friends Friday through Sunday.
