USF offering financial aid help for Hispanic families
Feb. 24, 2014 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis will host a Spanish language Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filing help session at 6 p.m. Monday, March 3 in Room 107 of the Pope John Paul II Center.
Financial aid professionals and Spanish interpreters will be available to answer questions and help students file the FAFSA to determine their eligibility for federal financial aid for college. Students should bring Social Security numbers and 2013 tax information for themselves and their parents to properly file the FAFSA. If students or parents have not yet filed their taxes for 2013, tax information will be estimated.
Indiana students must file the FAFSA by March 10to be considered for any state assistance. The FAFSA also provides the student’s school with information to determine what aid the institution may provide.
“We are very excited to provide financial aid assistance specifically geared toward Spanish-speaking students. Area financial aid professionals are seeing a rising need in the Hispanic community for college financial aid guidance. It is our goal that all students apply for financial aid, and we are happy to help any student achieve this goal,” said Director of Financial Aid, Michelle Nisun.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Spanish-speaking students and their families in our area to have specific questions answered by financial aid professionals as well as file their FAFSAs,” said Julie Townsend, admissions counselor for the University of Saint Francis. Townsend is fluent in Spanish, and will be available to help students. She can be reached at (260) 399-7700, ext.6305.
