USF lecture examining roles of interprofessional healthcare teams

March 19, 2013 CROWN POINT, Ind.—The University of Saint Francis Crown Point will continue its free “Future of” lecture series with “The Future of Healthcare—All Aboard: An Introduction to Interprofessional Educational and Practice” on Thursday, April 11 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Crown Point High School, 1500 S. Main St., Crown Point.

The event will examine the roles interprofessional healthcare teams will play in the future of healthcare delivery, as reported by a recent Institute of Medicine study, “Future of Nursing,” on the challenges and benefits coming in nursing and other healthcare professions. The event will expand upon the question-and-answer session included in the June 2012 event, and will be of interest to a wide range of healthcare professionals. A short overview of interprofessional teams will be followed by two diverse panels of practitioners and healthcare educators, as they address “Interprofessional Healthcare Teams: Implications for Education and Practice.” Discussion will center on interprofessional teams and the ethics demanded by this cutting-edge concept.

Moderating the panel will be University of Saint Francis (USF) educator Mindy Yoder, DNP, FNP-BC, RN. Providing different views on patient care will be panelists Constance Adams, MS, RN, CCNS, CCRN, a clinical nurse specialist for Methodist Hospitals; Suzanne Ruiz, RN, BS, MS, NP-C, a nurse practitioner for Community Hospital; Brian Nosbusch, a deacon in pastoral care for Franciscan Alliance; Michael Olson, BS, PD, a pharmacist for Franciscan Alliance; Amy Knepp, NP-C, MSN, RN, a nurse educator for USF; Karen Wade, RN, MSN, a care coordinator for Franciscan Alliance; Scott O’Brien, PT, a physical therapist for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for Franciscan Alliance; Anita Addlesberger, OTR/L, an occupational therapist for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for Franciscan Alliance; Rosemarie Brichta, BS, MT(ASCP), a medical technologist for Alverno Clinical Laboratories; and Charles Mok Jr., DO, a physician for Franciscan Alliance.
