USF Family Nurse Practitioner master degree earns maximum re-accreditation

Feb. 24, 2014 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program has been awarded the maximum of 10 years re-accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), after a Feb. 12 accreditation visit.

The CCNE team was complimentary of the university and its faculty, leadership, students, alumni and clinical affiliates associated with the program. Program leaders anticipate an official decision for the maximum 10 year accreditation from the CCNE Accreditation Review Board in late summer.

“This accreditation visit demonstrates how the University of Saint Francis continues to provide outstanding graduates in our healthcare community,” said FNP program director, Dr. Wendy Clark.

The program graduated its first class in 1997, and has graduated approximately 400 NPs since then. At the last accreditation visit, the program was awarded the maximum of 10 years re-accreditation. At the conclusion of the February site visit, the visit team reported that the program has once again met all standards for re-accreditation.

Over 100 students are enrolled in the MSN program as future primary care providers. They are supported with clinical experiences by many facilities in northeast Indiana and the surrounding region. The program has entry points for registered nurses (RNs) with associate and bachelor’s degrees, as well as an option for RNs with another master’s degree in nursing.

The program will be enrolling its next cohort of students to begin this summer. Contact the program director, Dr. Wendy Clark at wclark@sf.edu for more information.
