King named USF Crown Point dean

Marsha KingNov. 26, 2013 CROWN POINT, Ind. - Marsha King has been named dean of the University of Saint Francis Crown Point, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. J. Andrew Prall has announced. She joined the university last year as an assistant professor and Director of the Nursing Resource Center and Simulation Laboratory. She has been interim dean for a number of months.

King holds associate, bachelors and master degrees in nursing from Purdue University Calumet, and also completed a Master of Business Administration with emphasis on health care at Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry. She will complete the Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Rush University in Chicago in December 2013.

She brings clinical and administrative experience to her dean's role. The Chief Nursing Officer at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center until April 2011, she has also been an adjunct nursing faculty member for Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind. and served as president of the Indiana Board of Nursing. She is married with two sons in healthcare professions.

“Assisting in the development of the Simulation Lab at the University of Saint Francis Crown Point has been a wonderful opportunity,” King said. “I am eager to continue in this role as dean to support our mission of offering high quality healthcare education to adult students in northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois.”

Her leadership will help us to sustain our remarkable growth in programs and enrollment as we continue to extend the university’s Catholic and Franciscan mission to northwest Indiana,” Dr. Prall said.

  The University of Saint Francis, founded in 1890 as a comprehensive university in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, offers more than 60 undergraduate and 14 graduate programs in five schools: The School of Health Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences, Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership, School of Professional Studies and School of Creative Arts. More than 2,300 students from a broad geographic region attend USF for its academic excellence. The university has a regional campus in Crown Point, Ind.
