Fort Wayne area native Scott A. Sproat is a 22-year veteran of the world of professional sports and entertainment. Scott was born in nearby Auburn, IN and spent 10 seasons with the Continental Basketball Association and the Fort Wayne Fury prior to his current 12-year run as Executive Vice President/Co-Owner of the Fort Wayne Komet Hockey Club. Scott started his career in sports management as an intern with the Fury and literally held every job (except Coach) within the front office during his tenure. He was CEO of the Fury and a Regional Vice President of the CBA Eastern Region up until the days just prior to the league’s demise in February of 2001. Scott joined the ownership of the Komets as an operating partner to the Franke family in February of 2001. He continues to head-up all aspect of the Komets’ sales, marketing, promotions, product development, and event production as well as serving as a consultant to many of the ECHL Member Clubs throughout the Komets’ current league in all of the same disciplines. Scott has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne off-and-on for the last 9 years, teaching classes in Sports Management, Public Facility Management, Sports Marketing, and Advertising/Promotions.
Scott has served as a consultant to numerous minor league franchises in numerous sports and leagues throughout North America in both the areas of team and venue operations and designs. His career has included revivals of dying franchises, creation of new franchises, renovations of existing facilities, and consultation on design of new facilities. While with the Komets, Scott has help to engineer five league championships, five regular season titles, and six Member Franchise of the Year Awards in minor league hockey. Scott has also been honored an astounding nine times as his league’s Marketing Executive of the Year.
Scott remains active in many youth and high school sports today through his three boys Will (19), Ty (16), and Reid (12). Scott, his wife Stacy, and their three boys live just North of Fort Wayne, splitting the distance between his boyhood home north of Auburn and his now home-away-from-home at the Memorial Coliseum.
