Course Site Access
Do all courses have a Blackboard course site?
My Blackboard course site is not listed.
I’m not receiving email sent by my instructor from Blackboard.
When do course sites become available/unavailable to students?
How do I remove old course sites from My Blackboard homepage?
A course site is created for all courses taught during a particular semester, however, not all instructors use their Blackboard course site. You will know if one of your classes has a course site as it will appear on your My Blackboard homepage.
In addition, you may find that you have two sites for one course and wonder how that happened. Each course has a course ID. It is broken down like this: COUR.101..01.2012.10. The letters represent the topic, department or school. The next numbers (in this example, 101) represent specific course number and level. In this area you may also see a letter to represent a lab or satellite course. The next two numbers (listed here as 01) represent the section in which you are enrolled. This is where you may notice that you're enrolled in two sections: section 01 and section 00.
If the course that you are registered for is not listed under the My Courses module of your Blackboard homepage it may be due to the fact that the instructor is not using Blackboard for that particular course. It could also be that the instructor has not yet made the course available to students. If the instructor has given you instructions to go into a course site but it is not listed on your homepage ask the instructor if they have made the course available. If he/she has, request that they check the Blackboard class list to see if your name is on it. If your instructor confirms that you are on the class roster in Blackboard and the course site is available and you are still not seeing it, only then should you contact the Help Desk for troubleshooting. If you are a late registrant please allow 24 - 48 hours for your registration to be processed and your name added to the Blackboard course site.
The email address in Blackboard is defaulted to your cougars.sf.edu account so if you do not check this, do so. If you are not receiving emails from your instructor to your cougars.sf.edu email account please check your inbox and make sure it's not full. If you have rerouted your cougars.sf.edu to a personal email provider, please check your security settings including your SPAM mail settings. Please note that if you have rerouted your cougars.sf.edu account we cannot support you nor can we make any guarantee that you will receive emails sent from your instructor from Blackboard.
A course site becomes available to a student at the instructor's discretion, often one week prior to semester starting. It will then remain available until approximately one week after semester ends.
At the top right hand corner of the My Courses section there is a gear icon.
Click on it.
Uncheck the boxes under ‘Display Course Name' and 'Display Course ID' next to those courses that you no longer want to show up on your homepage; it's recommended to hide all of those except current courses. This does not remove a course, it simply hides it. You can go back and unhide it at any time and continue to go into the course.
Click ‘Submit' and ‘OK'.
