Pre-Art Therapy
USF offers the Pre-Art Therapy program as a viable option for students seeking a career in Art Therapy. Registered art therapists must earn a master’s degree, and this program meets the requirements for admission to graduate art therapy programs. According to the US National Bureau of Labor statistics, a growth of 14 to 19 percent is expected over the next ten years.
This exciting program blends a solid curriculum in the Studio Arts with courses in Psychology, Sociology and Social work. Together these prepare students for graduate study in Art Therapy as well as other related post-graduate fields. At USF, we believe in education beyond the classroom and facilitate this with internships and service projects both through the School of Creative Arts and the School of Professional Studies, which houses both the Psychology and Social Work Programs.
We are recognized for graduating exceptionally talented students. They work closely with faculty in small classes, resulting in tremendous growth. Pre-Art Therapy students focus in one of seven art concentrations that mirror those in the Studio Art Program: Printmaking, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics, Crafts, and Photography. A number of students even concentrate in multiple areas.
