Distinguished Young Alumna -- Dr. Lisa Marie (Setnicker) Piwoszkin (BS '08)

Raised in Hammond, Indiana by Robert and the late Marie Setnicker, Lisa always knew she wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Graduating valedictorian from Morton Senior High
School allowed her to pursue that career at USF with the assistance of academic and athletic scholarships. As a biology major she was prepared to succeed academically, and as a Cougar athlete she developed character through teamwork and friendship. Lisa also gained leadership experience and confidence through serving with the student government association and as student body president for two years.

After graduating from USF, Lisa attended medical school at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. Beyond her academic accomplishments, she is proud of her involvement in the National Student Osteopathic Association (SOMA). Elected vice president and speaker of the house, she served as a voice for her fellow students and community, introducing political and professional policy change. Upon graduation, Lisa was awarded the
CCOM Student D.O. of the Year Award and the Dean’s Special Commendation Award for Excellence in Service. She was blessed to have been matched in her first choice, ACGME Pediatric Residency at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn,
Illinois, where she is learning to become a competent general pediatrician with a strong focus in neonatal ICU and pediatric congenital heart disease. She has also continued to support up-and-coming osteopathic students and soon-to-be
pediatricians through alumni events and other mentoring programs.

Shortly after beginning medical school, Lisa married her college sweetheart, Joseph Piwoszkin (BS ’09), who has supported her through every step of her career. He recently earned his Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree from the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois, and together they have countless goals for the future of integrative and preventative medicine.
