Reporting to the MHA Program Director, adjunct faculty ensure all USF MHA students have the resources and support necessary to achieve their academic and career goals.

JOB SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the Chair or Director of the academic program, adjunct faculty receive a contract or letter stating adjunct employment with a primary responsibility in teaching. Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings or laboratories in coordination with established course and program objectives. Serving University of Saint Francis (USF) students and the USF community is paramount. To provide a consistent quality experience across the university, the USF Way, outlined in the Employee Handbook, is used to describe service expectations for all employees.

 

Major Responsibilities/Activities

 

The primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, analytical, and relational skills. Faculty who teach online must have: (a) high speed internet access, (2) a device that is less than 2 years old, (3) up-to-date virus protection program installed on device, (4) no Spyware on device(s) used for courses, and (5) up-to-date software programs.

 

An adjunct faculty member is expected to:

  • Teach MHA courses consistent with the catalog description and curriculum map
  • Create an effective learning environment for students, which may include teaching students the appropriate methodologies to facilitate in-person or virtual learning experiences
  • Integrate best research evidence with subject matter expertise to promote student engagement
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate student classroom performance
  • Monitor the progress of students, and intervene, when appropriate; meet with students individually and make referrals to others on campus, as needed
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance
  • Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically with students and program director as well as other USF faculty and staff regarding students’ progress and the coordination of educational experiences
  • Maintain appropriate records including, but not limited to, evaluations, test scores, correspondence, anecdotal notes, and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress
  • Respond to requests for information and submit reports promptly
  • Role model the Franciscan Values and respect the moral and religious beliefs of the university and students
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and the profession
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Masters or graduate degree in the field of study required.
  • Doctorate or terminal degree preferred.

 

Experience 

  • One to two year’s teaching or training experience preferred.
  • Two to three year’s professional experience within the field preferred.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations
  • Demonstrates an understanding of teaching pedagogy, instructional methods, and assessment of student competencies
  • Demonstrates ability to use technology to strengthen the learning and assessment experience in a higher educational setting.
  • Demonstrates the analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established learning outcomes and objectives
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal as well as communication skills, verbal and written, to interact effectively with all university constituents
