USF baseball season wraps with loss

Down 10-1 after 6 1/2 innings, the University of Saint Francis scored six times in the seventh, but fell short, losing 13-9 to Marian University on May 6. MU (23-19) moved into the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament Championship Round against Huntington University. Taylor Futterknecht closed out his career at USF with his 35th career home run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but USF could get no closer.

Head baseball coach Greg Roberts thanked all of the 2011 Cougars for some very special memories, and especially the seniors, who two years ago were part of the most successful season (32-21 in 2009) in the now 48-year history of the program. Futterknecht, Zwiebel, Peffley and Hank Vores helped USF to 95 wins in the last four seasons and three 20-plus wins seasons.

"I've been coaching a long time, but I don't know if I've ever had a team that never quit, always believed they could win no matter what the odds, more than you, and I thank you" It was the final game for seniors Futterknecht, Tristen Peffley, Mickey Owens, Collin Zwiebel, Hank Vores and Jarrod Roberts.
