Martin Luther King Day a day "on" at USF
There will be plenty of ways to show support for Dr. Martin Luther King's ideals of equality and love of all humanity during "A Day On, Not a Day Off," USF's recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 16. Other events will take place throughout January.
MLK Day Events
January 16—Continental Breakfast at 10:30 a.m. in Achatz Atrium; Call to Service at 11 a.m. in Gunderson Auditorium; and the community service projects listed below for the USF community of employees, students and alumni:
- Project Linus – NC gymnasium
- Love Community Center
- Vincent Village clean up
- Letters and care packages for military – Clare Hall, 3rd floor conference room
- Children’s Hope Hospitality House
- Associated Churches Food Bank
- On Campus Donation Boxes (Fleece for Project Linus, supplies for military, donations for ASPCA)
- Beds/pillows for pets – NC gymnasium
- Mustard Seed Furniture Bank
- Boys and Girls Club
- Center for Non-Violence
- St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store
- Ave Maria House
- Fort Wayne Urban League
- Fort Wayne Rescue Mission
Most projects involve cleaning, organizing or painting. Details will follow.
January 22—Movie “Crossing Salween” sponsored by Just Peace at 8:15 p.m. in Bonzel Hall
January 24—Interdisciplinary Panel Discussion, “King and Labor: The Memphis Sanitation Workers’ Strike” at 7 p.m. in Brookside Ballroom
January 26—Poetry and art in “A Celebration of African American Artists” at 6:30 p.m. in Brookside Ballroom
January 26—Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at the North Campus
